Prescription Weight Loss Pills

Anytime you are going to start something new or different in your life it is good common sense to understand as much about it as you are able to understand. With this philosophy in mind, we are going to list some of the prescription weight loss pills on the market and being prescribed by medical professionals today. As with ANY diet or weight loss program, please make sure you discuss it thoroughly with your personal physician to understand the specific implications for you before you start.

Adipex – You may be more familiar with the generic name these pills are know by – Phentermine. It is a stimulant related to or at least similar to amphetamine and an appetite suppressant which affects the central nervous system. It can be addictive. I have personally used this pill with great success, however the first week of being on the medication I was jittery and had symptoms similar to being on speed. I can attest the side effects are real, and you need to heed the warnings if you are going to use this medication. Of the three medications we are discussing in this article, Phentermine appears to be the all around favorite of patients (this is based on personal experience as well as speaking with many other patients about their situations)

Tenuate – This is also an appetite suppressant as are most weight loss pills on the market. Again, it is also a stimulant that affects the central nervous system, specifically the brain. It stimulates the brain to increase heart rate and blood pressure which will in turn decrease appetite. This can also be a habit forming medication, so people with an addictive personality should be very careful when thinking about using this drug for weight loss purposes. It is intended to be a short term plan to fight obesity and used in conjunction with proper diet and exercise.

Didrex – This pill, also known by Benzphetamine, is kind of unique in that doctors aren’t sure exactly how it assists patients in losing weight. It appears to act on the appetite center of the brain to reduce hunger, however it doesn’t have the same strong side effects of our last two weight loss pills selections. According to a number of non-scientific online surveys by patients expressing their overall success and experience on weight loss pills, Didrex was out preformed almost two to one (by my calculations) by the preceding two medications. Of course, this could be due to the fact that while you are on Didrex you are required to maintain a fitness regimen consisting of both weight resistance and cardiovascular exercise.

As I’m sure you are well aware of, there are many different medications on the market today. These are just a few that you might encounter when speaking with your physician about prescription weight loss pills. We will review some other medication options in the near future, so watch for new information.
